Circle Line meant to boost connectivity

I REFER to last Thursday's letter, 'Circle Line: Residents in western Singapore have not been taken into account', by Mr Tan Shao Ken.

The Circle Line is an orbital line, unlike our existing North-South, East-West and North-East lines, which are radial lines that take commuters from the suburbs to the city.

The intent of the Circle Line is to enhance connectivity and reduce the time taken for travel between suburban destinations by linking the various radial lines. By using the Circle Line, commuters can avoid having to make transfers at the busy interchange stations in the city area in order to switch between the different radial MRT lines.

The Circle Line is not intended to connect suburban areas directly to the city centre.

Residents living in the West Coast using the East-West Line for their journey can make use of the Circle Line to seamlessly transfer to the North-South Line or North-East Line and, in time to come, the Downtown Line and Thomson Line as well, without the need to pass through the city centre. In doing so, they can reduce the distance and save on time taken for the journey.

The Circle Line is being built in five stages. Phase 1, from Bartley to Marymount, will open on May 30, with the rest opening from next year onwards.
